99 cent Valentines

February 14, 2011

I fell asleep last night around 11 and at midnight my phone started ringing, so I sprung up and answered it…it was Marissa! She sounded panicked so I asked her if everything was okay. She told me that her and Danielle got into the Pisa airport from London, but they got kicked out of the airport because it was closing and it was pouring outside and there was no bus to get them to the train station (or something to that effect..I was awfully sleepy). All she wanted was to know if I could give her the number to a taxi because her and Danielle needed to do something if they were to make their train, or to get home at any point and time. I gave her the numbers I had and told her to call me if anything else happened and I would try my best to help them! The next thing I remember was my alarm clock going off and I started panicking because I realized that Marissa never called me back! I reached over to shut my alarm clock off when I realized that Marissa was fast asleep in her bed…what a relief! They made it home safely! I got up and started getting ready for school…today was my long day :/

I was anticipating Comparative Media today because not only was it our last class before the midterm, but I also needed to speak with Fabio about the fact that I could possibly be late for, or miss our midterm. This weekend we’re going to Barcelona, and  our flight doesn’t come in til Monday morning..if everything went smoothly and as planned then I should make it to school no problem, but if there is one little delay then everything could change and I could end up maybe missing my Comparative Media midterm. I told Fabio my concern and he told me over and over and over again that I shouldn’t worry because he is at the school til 6 p.m. on Mondays so if I’m late for class I could just stay til I finished it, and if something went majorly wrong then I could always take it another day..no worries! Boy, was that big weight lifted off my shoulders! Today in his class he also talked about the midterm. He told us that it would only be 3 open ended questions which should have responses of about a page each, and he gave us examples of what the questions would sounds like. That made me feel like 12 times better about the midterm and this class in general. In European Issues today we talked about the United Kingdom, which was pretty interesting, especially for Danielle since her and Marissa had JUST returned from the U.K.

After class I took my bookbag home, grabbed my big canvas grocery bag, and headed to Conad to do a little shopping. One of the only things that I crave here besides peanut butter is meat because it seems like we always make pasta with veggies or make soups that are vegetarian, etc., so I wanted to make dinner tonight that definitely had meat in it. I picked up some apples and carrots for lunches, grabbed a huge thing of ground beef, some pasta sauce, a few cans of soup, my favorite cereal which was still on sale with my Conad card, and a couple other things. I had some angel hair pasta at home, so I cooked all of my meat, put the sauce in it, and made some pasta. Of course I made wayyy more than I could eat, so not only did I get my meat fix, but I also have dinner made for at least one other night! On my way home from school we stopped in the 99 cent store because Lauren wanted to look for a notebook, and I saw this nocciola/ciccolata (hazelnut and chocolate) pie, along with these tiramisu and cappuccino chocolates. I pretty much forgot it was Valentine’s day until I noticed all of the red and pink decorations and presents in the 99 cent shop, so I decided I should buy the pie and chocolates for me and the roomies for Valentine’s day! So we indulged in that after dinner and the pie and chocolates were both delicious! The pie ended up being a really crumbly almost cookie consistency with a layer of the chocolate and hazelnut filling and a lattice top over it…so good! I think I might have to start grocery shopping at the 99 cent store more often! Haha.

After dinner I ended up skypeing with mom for a little bit and I tried teaching her how to send me a package because some things won’t make it past customs, and for some things it will cost me money to pay to receive the package once it gets here. So I tried my hardest to tell her the best and cheapest way for the both of us for me to get all of the things she plans on sending me. Hopefully it works for whenever she ends up sending it! After I talked to her I did a little homework and talked to a few people from back at Kent, and started putting my blogs together because I hadn’t posted new ones in quite a while and I’m sure everyone was curious what was going on in my life and I was anxious to tell them!
