Chinese in Italy!

February 9, 2011

This morning I woke up and thanked Kaila, wherever she may be at that time, because what a difference a real pillow makes! Jeez, I feel great! I went to Italian class and decided that I would go home, eat lunch, and then grab some homework and come back to the school early before European Issues. I feel like I’m always highly distracted at home living with 6 other girls, and I really feel like I should start getting serious about reading and studying. I went back to the school around 1:30/2:00 which gave me about 2 hours to get some reading done. I got in the library, started reading my Roman Achievement when Ivy (one of the comm. girls) came in and we started talking and talking and we discussed different travel plans that we both had and whatnot, and eventually before I knew it I had like 5 minutes til European Issues started….whoops! So much for going to the school to not be distracted and trying to get some reading done! But Ivy is a really sweet girl who I’m really starting to like and become friends with, so I really didn’t mind. Today in European Issues we had our second presentation, which was done by Chris. Danielle and I just looked at each other and were both thinking the same thing when we saw Chris walk into the class because he was wearing nice khaki pants, a button-up shirt with a tie and sweater..he looked so nice! I think he thought looking nice for his presentation would help boost his grade, but his presentation was really really good that I don’t think he needed a grade booster! Once again, I find myself loving politics/history…weird!

On the way home from class Danielle and I both agreed that we wanted Chinese for dinner. I have been dying to have Chinese since like the second night I was here, and I have discovered a cute little Chinese restaurant literally right around the corner from our apartment. We stopped home to drop off our school stuff and headed to the restaurant, hoping we could get take-out. When we walked in there were two fairly large Chinese families eating dinner and it almost felt as if we were intruding on a family dinner..and it almost felt as if they weren’t open yet or something because it was absolutely silent. However, we were approached by a waitress and we asked if we could get take-out and she handed us two menus and made us sit in these two chairs right by the cash register. We both decided we wanted sweet and sour chicken with white rice, so we ordered and the waitress told us it would only be about 5 minutes. Well those 5 minutes (which I swear was more like 15 minutes) were the most awkward 5 minutes of my life. The two families were both still eating in silence and every single member over the course of the 5 minutes had turned around and stared at Danielle and I..and they didn’t even try to disguise the fact that they were staring at us! They literally would have their backs to us and turn theyir heads completely around and just stare! I suppose we were probably staring at them also because we noticed the whole fish (eyeballs, scales, and all) that was sitting on their table, as well as the man who shoveled about 12 chopstick-fulls of white rice into his mouth. I just was incredibly happy when the waitress started packing our dinners into a bag, so we could get out of there! However, both Danielle and I agreed that the restaurant was really cute – it literally felt like we left Italy and entered China! And we also thought it was reasonably priced. But I must say I thought eating Chinese in Italy was kinda a crazy concept, but even crazier than that was the fact that our Chinese waitress spoke to us in Italian!

We came back to the apartment and devoured our meals…it was so delicious! After we ate Marissa and Danielle suggested that we watch the newest episode of Pretty Little Liars (the show that they now have me hooked on) and then head to bed, but we couldn’t get any of our computers to have a good internet connection and/or connect to the internet, so we gave up on that idea. I read a little bit for art history and headed to bed. I was more than happy to retire to my bed now that I have successfully eaten Chinese food, and now that I have TWO pillows! :]
