Today in Comparative Media our teacher Fabio told us that we could choose the date of our midterm to be either February 21st, or March 7th. It seems so weird to think that midterms are approaching when I feel like school just started! I voted for March 7th because our flight from Barcelona gets in Monday morning on February 21st so any little delay could make me late for school, but of course everyone in my class except for like 2 other people voted against me….great. Not only am I now worried about missing my midterm in case of crazy delays with flights or trains, but I also feel completely clueless in that class. We barely ever are presented with any actual material or power point slides/notes in that class, and when he does have a power point presentation going he ends up on some random tangent that I can never follow. And thinking about the fact that we only have this class once a week, we only have one more class before the midterm…eeeek! So basically I’m beginning to get concerned…my thoughts about school here being fake school is starting to become a reality.
When Danielle and Lauren arrived to school for European Issues after my Comparative Media class they asked me if I was going to the movie tonight. I completely forgot all about the Italian movie that was being played tonight at the school! I decided that I might as well just stay at the school after European Issues, grab some dinner at the kebab place right by the school and sit and do Italian homework in my workbook and wait for the movie to start so I didn’t have to walk to and from school like 3 times. Chris stayed at the school with me and we both sat doing homework in our Italian workbooks while we made a mess eating our kebabs (he got a kebab wrap, and I got a kebab pizza…so delicious!). My roommates met me and Chris a few minutes before 7:00 before the movie started and we made our way into the big lecture hall to find only a handful of other students and Nicoletta. The moving being played was called Io Non Ho Paura, which means “I am not afraid.” Nicoletta (she’s the Italian 2 teacher) was messing around with the DVD and told us that for some reason she couldn’t get the English subtitles to work, so we were going to have to do without, but the plot shouldn’t be too hard to follow. She also would stop the movie every so often to make sure all of us were on the same page and answer any questions we had about any of the dialect or events happening in the movie. The film ended up being about a little boy named Michele who finds this boy named Filippo in a hole who was kidnapped by by Michele’s family. At first Michele had no idea that his family members were the ones responsible for holding this little boy captive, and that his family kidnapped the boy in order to get some sort of random. But, he started to pick up on things and started talking to Filippo and ended up saving him. The movie was so AMAZING and extremely suspenseful towards the end…this makes me really excited for the Italian movies they are playing later in the semester…and on top of getting to enjoy a really good Italian movie, we get bonus points in Italian class for going to these movies! I came home and finished my workbook and studied for Italian because tomorrow is our second Italian test!
