A day of Pick-me-ups!

February 16, 2011

So last night while I was sleeping I was feeling pretty darn sick and couldn’t breathe. I couldn’t even imagine trying to sleep if Kaila hadn’t given me an extra pillow! We had to wake up earlier this morning because we had a mandatory meeting about the fingerprinting process for our student stay permits. I swear that by the time our stay permits are actually finished it will be time to go back to the States! But on February 24th my group has to go to the police station to get fingerprinted at 8 a.m. and they said it could take up to 3 hours or more to complete the process..crazy! We got a few more documents we needed for the process and are to bring them to the office with a few other documents we already have on our scheduled date. Nick sat by me during the meeting and continued telling me how sick I looked and that I shouldn’t come to Italian because I was sick, and I was like “The more you tell me I look like crap and how I sick I am, the more I’m not likely to get better, so stop it!”

After Italian I came back home to eat lunch (some soup and crackers) and realized that I think my pills were actually working though, I’m slowly starting to feel better. I think it’s just the nights and the mornings that are the roughest and throughout the day I don’t feel so bad. While eating lunch, Danielle, Lauren, and I all sat down to really figure out and book our hostels for spring break, and luckily we all had previously looked up hostels and managed to quickly all agree to a cheap, but nice hostel in all 3 countries. I CAN’T WAIT! After we figured out all of the planning and hostel-booking I decided to take some Comparative Media notes since Fabio sent us all of his powerpoint lecture slides from class, and I thought if I wrote them all down instead of looking at them on my computer I could take them with me this weekend to study…I really want to do well on this midterm (if I ever make it to that class Monday!).

Today was extremely rainy and I was leaving for European Issues I stepped outside to discover that I forgot my umbrella! I turned back around, headed back up to our apartment to snag my umbrella, and I really thought I was going to be late, but was determined to grab a bag of chocolates from the 99 cent store, because I needed a good pick-me-up today. I was extremely surprised to bust into the classroom for European Issues and find only my roommates sitting, waiting…clearly I wasn’t late! Lauren and Danielle showed me that they have finally bought a couple folders from this one place (we call it the “crazy lady place”) and they were only 1 euro each. I swear we have been searching high and low for a stinking folder, and do you think we could find any? Not one bit! So on our way home from class I stopped in the crazy lady’s store and bought 3 folders…I can’t wait to finally be organized!

I was so excited to get home after class though, because me and my roomie Ryan had set up a skype date, and I have been dying to see and talk to her! It’s so strange having been living with a person for a year and a half and get so used to each other and each other’s schedules, and then all of a sudden everything changes. It was weird having her show me our room…it doesn’t even look like our room anymore! She has posters up, the two beds pushed together into one big bed, she said the sink is always clean (my dishes always managed to pile up fast), and she said that our little drawers in our bathroom are so light nowadays since my hair dryer, two straighteners, and other products aren’t in it anymore…soooo weird to think about! I almost feel like I’m just on vacation here in Italy over summer break or something, and that she shouldn’t be back in Kent without me, but I guess as you grow up you start having to face situations like this…you can’t live the same life for forever. But I do miss her dearly, and loved catching up on everything…there are definitely more of those dates to come!

I was starving when I got done talking to her because it was close to 8 p.m. my time and I didn’t start dinner til after I had hung up my clothes from the washer which I completely forgot about. I decided to just heat up the remaining noodles and meat sauce that I had had the other night, but was almost too impatient that a bite every now and again was a tad cold, but I really could have cared less. While I ate Marissa and Danielle played an episode of Gossip Girl, which I swear couldn’t get any cheesier…I’m pretty sure that when I used to watch that show back when I was like a sophomore in high school it was actually a decent show, but I can’t even follow what’s going on anymore!

After the show I finished up my Comparative Media notes and Marissa and I talked for a little bit about the change of dates of a couple school trips/classes and our possibilities that we now have. Our trip to Venice is now changed from April 8th and 9th to April 7th and 8th, which means we now have a free Saturday and Sunday…possibly a chance to go to a soccer game on that Sunday, and a day trip to somewhere on Saturday. Our spring break has also been extended one day because our school has cancelled all classes on March 17th, which was supposed to be the last day of classes before spring break. However, I don’t think it will be that worth it to change spring break plans since all of our flights have already been booked, as well as our hostels, and most of our planning is done. It just seems like a lot to think about, especially since I have never dealt with travel things in my entire life. I suppose it’s something to sleep on…which hopefully means I’ll get some decent sleep tonight and will be able to breathe and wake up feeling better!

P.S. I finally got mom's Valentine's Day card in the mail, so now I can add it to my lovely card collection with Katie's card (my friend Joe's sister) and Aunt Cindy's card! Oh the little things that brighten up my day and let me know my support and love is out there!
